spiceworks is a free proprietary IT solution software that includes a helpdesk component and an integrated knowledge base. Spiceworks is an online community where users can collaborate and seek advice from one another, and also engage in a marketplace to purchase IT-related services and products. With the help desk module in spiceworks you can manage tickets and tasks from a computer or mobile device. it also supports multi-sites, meaning if you have multiple customers to support you can do so from a single instance of spiceworks.

You can run Spiceworks on-premise or in a hosted environment. The requirements for on-premise hosting are:

  • Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 R2
  • 1.5 GHz Pentium 4 class processor
  • 4 GB RAM

Spiceworks is written in Ruby on Rails and only run on Windows.

Spiceworks is not free, they make money through the sale of ads displayed on its network. A small percentage of its revenue is generated through purchases of IT products and services made through the Spiceworks platform. The platform also includes premium features, which are available for purchase.
